Job Description The Pathologist Assistant will perform a variety of
duties in the evaluation and processing of patient specimens,
adhering to departmental operating policies, under the direct
supervision of a pathologist. The role involves operating various
autopsy and laboratory equipment such as autopsy saws, cameras,
processors, cryostats, computers, and dictation equipment.
Responsibilities Perform post mortem examinations or assist in
autopsy procedures by making and closing incisions, eviscerating
organs, and specimen collection under the direction of a
pathologist. Release bodies from the morgue during regular
laboratory hours. Process surgical specimens, including proper
labeling, fixation, and decalcification per established protocols.
Perform FNA and Bone Marrow specimen preparation procedures.
Collect samples for specialized studies, research, toxicology, and
microbiology assays. Independently perform simple and complex
dissections with appropriate dictation based on department
guidelines. Prepare frozen sections, including cryostat microtomy,
staining, coverslipping, and labeling. Maintain autopsy and
surgical tissue storage. Essential Skills Bachelor’s degree
required (B.S. or B.A.) Graduate of a NAACLS-accredited
Pathologists’ Assistant program ASCP-PA certification required
Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with pathology,
specimen processing, and cryostat operations Work Environment This
is a day shift role from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Candidates
will receive additional compensation for paid parking. Job Type &
Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of
Washington, DC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is
$46.00 - $50.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits
and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
