Lot Squared focuses on the luxury market. Stony Creek focuses on
mid-market homes.About the Role:We are seeking a highly
experienced, hands-on Residential Architect to oversee our
residential design projects across all business units. The ideal
candidate will bring 10+ years of practical field experience, with
proven success in both custom and production home design. This role
requires a pragmatic, creative problem-solver who understands
construction from the ground up and can lead design teams while
maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders in the
DC/Maryland/Virginia area.Summary:The Residential Architect will
manage all aspects of the architectural design process, ensuring
projects are completed on time, within budget, and to our
high-quality standards. This role requires exceptional design
expertise, team leadership, Revit proficiency, and project
execution to create beautiful, profitable homes while maintaining
our commitment to quality craftsmanship and design excellence.Key
Responsibilities:Design Development & Quality Control
- Lead architectural design activities across multiple
residential projects
- Ensure all designs meet or exceed company quality standards and
building codes
- Implement effective design review processes at each stage of
development
- Identify and resolve design issues quickly and efficiently
- Conduct regular design reviews and quality assessmentsTeam
Leadership
- Build and maintain a high-performing architectural and drafting
team
- Manage and mentor in-house design staff, including
international team members
- Evaluate team performance and provide constructive
feedback
- Foster a collaborative environment that balances creativity
with practicality
- Lead by example with hands-on involvement in critical design
challengesProject Management
- Develop and maintain detailed design schedules for each
project
- Identify potential bottlenecks early and implement
solutions
- Collaborate with construction team to ensure buildability of
designs
- Manage design changes and revisions efficiently
- Ensure projects remain on budget while maintaining design
integrityClient & Stakeholder Communication
- Serve as a key design liaison for clients, contractors, and
stakeholders
- Present design concepts and address concerns promptly and
professionally
- Maintain clear communication with project managers and company
leadership
- Document design decisions and provide regular status
updates
- Coordinate with internal teams on design modifications and
value engineeringCompliance & Technical Expertise
- Ensure all designs comply with local building codes and
regulations
- Maintain proper architectural licensure in DC, MD, and VA
- Address technical challenges with practical, innovative
solutions
- Prepare documentation for permitting and approvals
- Stay current with evolving building practices and design
trendsQualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of proven architectural experience in
residential construction
- Active architectural license in at least one jurisdiction (DC,
MD, or VA) with willingness to obtain all three within 90-120 days
of hire
- Extensive experience in DC/Maryland/Virginia residential
market
- Proficiency in Revit and other industry-standard design
software
- Strong portfolio demonstrating both aesthetic excellence and
practical buildability
- Hands-on field experience and understanding of construction
methodsExperience:
- 10+ years of direct residential architectural experience
- Demonstrated success in both custom and production home
design
- Proven track record of leading design teams effectively
- Experience translating client vision into buildable, profitable
projects
- History of successful collaboration with construction
