Class Description

The AFWC is responsible for all aspects of the clinical experiences of students enrolled in the program, including organization, administration, continuous review and revision, planning for and development of locations for evolving practice skills and the general effectiveness of the clinical experience.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred. Minimum at least two (2) years' clinical experience as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant and licensed or eligible for license in the State of Maryland. Minimum 2 years' experience teaching.

Class Specific Essential Duties

  1. Develops relationships and coordinates clinical placements for the program.
  2. Evaluates the effectiveness of clinical assignments in meeting the educational needs of the students and end of program outcomes.
  3. Assures the program meets accreditation standards in terms of the clinical program.
  4. Maintains sufficient number of fieldwork sites to assure timely student placement.
  5. Manages all administrative aspects of fieldwork placement including affiliation agreements and certificate of insurance documentation.
  6. Initiates and maintains communication and correspondence between the program and clinical sites.
  7. Incorporate new practice trends into fieldwork experiences.

Position Specific Essential Duties

  1. Identify and secure fieldwork placements in compliance with the "Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE)" standards.
  2. Conduct "Fieldwork Orientations" for students.
  3. Functions as a mediator between students and fieldwork educators.
  4. Collaborates with fieldwork educator in assigning the final grade for fieldwork and is responsible for submitting grades to Record Office.
  5. Advisement of OTA students as required.
  6. Update Fieldwork Manual annually.
  7. Participates with the Chesapeake Bay Fieldwork Council.
  8. Maintains liaisons with other colleges and universities to enrich the dialogue between institutions.
  9. Host meetings and workshops for fieldwork educators annually.
  10. Provides course instruction as assigned.
  11. Contribute to ongoing program evaluation.
