Job Description:
We serve the elderly by providing them with a home-like
environment which meets their health, activity, spiritual and
socialization needs. Our facility (St. Martin's Home) is newly
renovated and each living area (instead of units we call these
living areas 'cottages') has the capacity for 18 residents. St.
Martin's Home offers independent, assisted living, and long term
care options for the elderly who have limited financial resources.
Each long term care cottage has a Little Sister who serves as a
cottage coordinator, a nurse like you, to assist the 18 residents
with their ADL's. You won't find a cleaner, newer, or more
organized facility anywhere.. We believe in dignified and quality
resident care - it is our topmost priority. Our Home, while having
most of the bells and whistles of other facilities, is quiet, fun,
loving, steady, warm and inviting. MISSION: The RN/LPN will
carryout their duties in keeping with the mission of LIttle Sisters
of the Poor, namely caring for the aged poor with love, respect and
dignity. "Make the elderly happy, that is what counts" was a saying
of the Little Sisters of the Poor foundress Saint Jeanne Jugan.
Central to this philosophy is the promotion of a holistic approach
for our Residents in an atmosphere of kindness and respect in
creating a family spirit. JOB STANDARDS: The ability to function as
the nurse in charge duirng their assigned shift. Able to function
independently and perform related duties/tasks with a minimum of
supervision or direction. Good observational skills and a working
knowledge of the nursing process. The ability to supervise others
and/or have prior managemewnt experience. Leadership skills to
interact effectively with staff, Residents and families. The
ability to perform essential job functions with or without
reasonable accommodations. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Observe
and monitor assigned Residents daily and report current status to
the relief nurse. Timely reporting of changes in Residents status
or condition to the DON or their designee. Notify Resident
physician and responsible part of change of Resident status, with
prior reporting (if possible) to DON or Mother Superior. Administer
and document prescribed medications/treatments accurately and
timely and in compliance with policies/procedures. Respond calmly
and quickly to emergencies involving Residents or employees and
report the situation to the DON or her designee. Transcribe
accurately and timely all physician orders. Provide necessary
supervison and follow up of care performed by Nursing Assistants.
Communicate daily all pertinent Resident care information to
Nursing Assistans, Nursing Staff, and the DON. Prepare accurately
and timely documentation, including but not limited to
accident/incident reports, admission/readmission, discharges,
changes in Residents conditions/status, etc. Maintain
confidentiality of all Resident, departmental and organizational
information. Protect Residents rights and personal healthcare
information. Follow all safety, security, infection/exposure
control and hazardous waste policies and procedures. Does this
