Internal Revenue Code. Although CASA and CASA in Action share a
common goal of supporting immigrants and low-income people in
Maryland, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Virginia, and nationally, they are
separate organizations with their own board of directors.
DEPARTMENT SYNOPSIS: The citizenship program is housed under the
Immigrant Integration Department. Its Director co-supervise the
Virginia Immigrant Integration Manager, Deputy Director Regional
Services Virginia, together with CASA Virginia State Director. The
Immigrant Integration Department oversees CASA’s citizenship
activities in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, helping over
1,300 individuals annually to prepare their N-400 applications,
have access to wraparound services, and become US citizens. This
position will be performed in Woodbridge, Virginia. The Immigrant
Integration Manager, who supervises the Citizenship Class
Instructor, will meet periodically for class updates. The
Naturalization Class Instructor is responsible for preparing adult
learners for the U.S. POSITION SUMMARY: Help aid the naturalization
process by providing instruction in civics, U.S. history and
government, and English language skills. The instructor supports
students in understanding citizenship requirements and successfully
completing the naturalization interview and exam, assisting the IIP
coordinator with administration work, and including conducting mock
interviews to build confidence and readiness. ESSENTIAL
RESPONSIBILITIES: Deliver engaging instruction in U.S. civics,
history, and government aligned with USCIS requirements Teach and
reinforce English reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills
for citizenship preparation Conduct mock naturalization interviews
to help students practice responding to interview questions Explain
the naturalization process, eligibility criteria, and required
forms, including the N-400 Adapt lessons to meet the needs of adult
learners from diverse cultural and language backgrounds Monitor and
document student attendance and progress Create a supportive,
inclusive, and respectful learning environment Use approved
curricula and instructional materials Maintain confidentiality of
student records and personal information Refer students to
appropriate community or legal resources as needed Assist the IIP
coordinator in administrative work for the program.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Training aligned with USCIS citizenship preparation Experience with
adult learners or immigrant populations Citizenship Instruction or
Civics Education training Familiarity with USCIS citizenship
materials KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Ability to
perform all of the duties outlined above. Must be Bilingual
English/Spanish Demonstrated understanding of financial education
and the naturalization process. Demonstrated success and passion in
working with immigrant populations and working class members with
limited formal education. Excellent writing and speaking skills.
Ability to maintain a database and high comfort level with computer
programs, including Google Suite, Microsoft Word and Excel,
Salesforce, and willingness to learn other needed computer
programs. Deep commitment to social change and to growing CASA as a
membership organization in which members have decision-making
authority. Strong interpersonal communication, conflict resolution
and negotiation skills. Ability to work independently and as part
of a team. Highly organized and able to lead multiple ongoing
projects. Demonstrated success in project coordination. Must be
able to work flexible hours including evenings Must have reliable
